I Heart NYC

Sarah Jessica Parker said that she liked this dress because it reminded her of New York City's architecture. Being somewhat of an architecture dork, that comment endeared me more to this dress than I would have felt inclined to be otherwise.

But I still think it's purty.

Environmental Art: The Gates

A couple of years ago, New York City housed an environmental art peice called "The Gates", a series pf hundreds of gates that ran through Central Park. Environmental art isn't art that's "green" or "eco-friendly." Rather, it's art that changes our environment, something that literally becomes a part of our surroundings. I love "The Gates" for it's simplicity and boldness. I wish I could have seen it in person.

Graphic Design: Kandinsky

I think the reason I started loving Kandinsky so much is that his work reminds me so much of my dad, whose an architect. Kandinsky's paintings have a mathematical quality to them, much like arts of architecture, music and the sciences. At first glance at this painting might make it seem unorderly and chaotic, but the painter actually had strong reasons for everything he did, from what colors he chose to what shapes he overlapped together. If any one ever tells you that abstract art is primitive, show them this work, and they'll have to agree that there is a sophistication to it.
